Meet Shane, your mortgage adviser
At Key & Compass, you are working directly with me, Shane Passfield-Bagley, a Christchurch based mortgage adviser working with clients across New Zealand. I specialise in guiding home owners and property investor clients through lending decisions in a calm, practical way.

I have worked with a wide range of clients, from salaried first home buyers and growing families through to self employed business owners and active property investors. What I hear often after our meetings is that they finally feel like someone has explained it properly and given them a plan that fits their life, not just the bank’s forms.
​
Buying, refinancing or investing can feel overwhelming, with different rules, products and opinions to weigh up. My role is to slow things down, understand your goals and numbers, and explain what the banks are likely to say so you can move forward with confidence. Our process, the Key & Compass Method, keeps every step structured, transparent and designed for long term outcomes.

The relationship does not end at settlement. I stay in touch with reviews, refix support and check ins when rules or your life change, so your lending keeps working for you over time.

Why I started Key & Compass
Before launching Key & Compass I worked as a mortgage adviser within a larger financial advice group, helping clients all over the country with new lending, ongoing structure advice and investment lending strategies. I enjoyed the work, but I could see there was room to slow things down and put education at the centre of the conversation.

Key & Compass grew out of that feedback. I wanted a business that gives people clear explanations, honest advice and a long term plan, rather than just a one off transaction. The name reflects that. The key is helping you secure the right home or investment. The compass is being the guide that helps you navigate there and stay on course as life changes.

A real person behind the spreadsheets
Outside of mortgages I am a husband, dad and animal lover who understands the real world pressures of family life, business cashflow and the never ending list of home projects. That lived experience shapes my advice. I know your mortgage has to work in day to day life, not just in a calculator.
